Benefits of using an Aqeeq stone

Question: 

Is there any
spiritual or worldly benefit in wearing as a ring, or carrying in the pocket,
an aqeeq (agate) gemstone?


Answer: 

We have not come across any text that encourage one to carrying an Aqeeq stone nor have we found any benefits mentioned in this regard. However, there are some Ahadith in which encouragement is found to utilize the Aqeeq stone on ones ring. The following Hadith is found in Shu’abul Imaan of Imaam Bayhaqi Rahimahullah:
ث نََا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللََُّّ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " تَََ تَّمُوا بِِلْعَقِيقِ فَإِنَّهُ مُبَارَكٌ "
It is reported from Ayesha Radhiallahu Anha that Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Utilize an Aqeeq stone in your ring for verily it is blessed”. 

Many similar narrations are mentioned regarding using the Aqeeq stone in one’s ring. Another weak narration mentions that utilizing the Aqeeq stone in one’s ring alleviates poverty. (Shaami Vol. 6 Pg. 360 - Mirqatul Mafatih Vol. 8 Pg. 274). However, the chain of all these Ahadith are weak. Many Muhadditheen have also classified them as been Maudhoo(fabricated).

Due to the many different chains found for these Ahadith the author of “Mirqaatul Mafaateeh”(a commentary of Mishkaat) mentions that the many different chains prove there is basis for these Ahadeeth. Besides the few weak Ahadith we are unaware of any other worldly or spiritual benefits of an Aqeeq stone. A point to note is that Some Ulama are of the opinion that the ring of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was silver which contained an Aqeeq stone. So, if you would like to utilize an Aqeeq stone you should do so by setting it in a silver ring which contains less than 4,374grams of silver.(Shaami Vol. 6 Pg. 359-361)
