According to Madhhab:
A few days ago I was
told by a doctor of our khiyaal that the ulama of deoband celebrated the freedom

We have not found any clear text or evidence to prove that the Ulama of Deoband celebrated Indian Freedom Day and sang the national anthem.
However, if they did perchance celebrate the day, then the reasoning behind it will have to be investigated. If celebrating the Freedom Day along with singing the national anthem was done purely due to political expediency/reasons, then there would be some leeway for it, but with the proviso that nothing was said or done in conflict with Shariah’. For instance, no act of Shirk took place and no words of Shirk were contained in the in the anthem that was sung.
If what you have heard is true, that the Ulama of Deoband did do this, then it was very likely to have been done due to political expediency/reasons and surely within the boundaries of Shariah. (Kifayatul Mufti Vol. 9 Pg. 79)
