Does emission of semen necessitate Ghusl
Category:
According to Madhhab:
I experience evil thoughts and thereafter find a particular type of discharge that has emitted. Does such a discharge necessitate Ghusl or only Wudhu?
1.The first type of discharge is ‘semen’ which is referred to as ‘Mani’ in the terminology of Fuqaha. This is a white thick fluid that is discharged at the time of ejaculation or at the time of nocturnal
emission.
2. The second type is ‘pre-coital fluid’ which is referred to as ‘Mazi’ in the terminology of Fuqaha. This is a white, thin, sticky fluid that is released when a man is aroused either during foreplay with
his spouse, or by fantasizing about women, or looking at nude pictures in magazines, watching pornography, etc.
3. The third type is ‘prostatic fluid’ which is referred to as ‘Wadi’ in the terminology of Fuqaha. We will mention a simple method of determining and ascertaining whether the fluid discharged is
regarded as semen or pre-coital fluid. When semen is discharged the person is satisfied and his passion is cooled whereas the excitement increases even further when pre-coital fluid is emitted.
Using this formula or simple principle you should determine whether semen or pre-coital fluid is being discharged when experiencing these thoughts. If the fluid discharged is semen then Ghusl is necessary irrespective of the number of times it occurs during the day (which is unlikely). On the other hand, if it is pre-coital fluid that is being emitted then Ghusl will not be necessary rather
the impurity should be washed off one’s clothing and a fresh / new Wudhu should be made if one intends performing Salaah as the discharge of Mazi invalidates one’s Wudhu. (Darul Ifta archives)
