According to Madhhab:
Is it permissible for females to travel
without a mahram to far places like lenasia etc, for the purpose of studying
Even though Islam encourages and inspires its followers to acquire knowledge; yet womenfolk are advised to remain in their homes and not to leave their residential premises without a valid reason. Moreover, Shari’ah does not prevent women from learning and acquiring knowledge. However, the method and means adopted in doing so, should not contravene the laws of Shari’ah. Therefore, they should make arrangement for acquiring Islamic knowledge in their homes or close to their homes. Furthermore, they are not allowed to travel alone for 77 kilometers or more without a Mahram as mentioned in various Ahadith; however, if the distance is less than Safar-e-Sharie, they will be permitted to travel alone with the proviso that there is no fear of Fitna (mischief).
Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم has stated:
."لا يحل لامرأة، تؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر، تسافر مسيرة ثلاث ليال، إلا ومعها ذو محرم "
"It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to travel for more than three nights journey except that there is a Mahram with her."
Additionally, in the present era of Fitna & Fasaad, they are advised not to travel alone without a Mahram. In the enquired scenario, if Lenasia is more than the distance of Safar-e-Sharie, they will not be permitted to travel alone without a Mahram and if it is less than the distance of Safar-e-Sharie, although they would be allowed to travel if there is no fear of Fitnah (i.e there are arrangements made for transport, roads are safe etc.). Seeing the present conditions and bearing in mind Fitna & Fasaad of today, they will be advised to remain in their homes and make some arrangements therein.
