Question:
I have been
told by the doctors to use vaginal dilators after having surgery to open my
hymen. I was referred for an examination under anesthetic as it was painful for
anything to penetrate, so intercourse had become impossible. After surgery I
found out my hymen had not broken so the surgeons slit it for which reason I
now have to use vaginal dilators to help stretch the hymen to make
intercourse easier. I have to use lubricant on the dilator before I use it.
Question
is: do I have to do ghusal every time I use the dilators?
Answer:
Ghusl becomes obligatory under the below conditions:
i. At the end of menstruation. ii. At the end of nifaas (after birth bleeding). iii. Ejaculation of semen out of excitement.
iv. Entry of the glans of the male private part into the female private part (even if ejaculation of semen does not take place) (Tahtawi Alad Durr Vol. 1 Pg. 94)
In the enquired scenario inserting a dilator will not obligate ghusl; however, wudhu will be necessary. In the case of ejaculation taking place, ghusl will be obligatory. (Shaami Vol. 1 Pg. 313)
