Question:
When a baby girl is adopted and breastfed by the adoptive mother, do the brothers of the adoptive father (married to the mother) become the baby girl's foster uncles and are they regarded as Mahram.
The foster mother fed the daughter with hormonal tablets which created the milk within her.
In this case does the foster father become the foster daughter's Mahram, and do the foster father's brothers become her Mahrams or not?
Answer:
If the adopted child was breastfed by the adoptive mother (within two years from birth) then due to such breast feeding the adoptive father will become Haraam upon the child, as he is now considered as the child’s Radaa’iee father, even though the breast milk was induced through medication. It will not be permissible for this breastfed child to marry her Radaa’iee father’s brother, as he is considered as her uncle. The Radaai’ee father and his brother both become Mahaarim to the child.
