Question: 

Can a person start a new Quran khatam without completing his previous khatam ? 

Answer: 

It is allowed for a person to make a new Khatam without completing the previous Khatam. However, it will be best if person completes the first Khatam that he is busy with then start a new Khatam. It comes in a Hadeeth that a man said, 'O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is most virtuous to Allah?' He said: 'Al-Haallul-Murtahil'' He said: 'What is Al-Haallul-Murtahil? Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: 'The one who recites from the beginning of the Qur'an to the end then from the end goes onto the beginning again setting out for another completion, (like the one who) every time disembarks from his mount in journey, embarks on his mount again.'" i
