Question:

Is
it permissible to design a website to help people to diagnose depression and is
it islamically suitable?

And what does shariat say regarding seeking help if someone is in depression.

Answer:

If this refers to designing a website whereby some medical expert will assist patients by asking questions in regards to the patient’s condition and prescribing some remedy or medication then it will be acceptable as long as it does not include any un-Islamic practices. This can be equated to seeking treatment from a medical practitioner when faced with some illness.

If you are referring to ‘body talk’ or ‘Emotional freedom therapy’ or any similar type of therapy then we do not approve of it, hence we will not approve of you initiating a website for this purpose.

There is no harm in seeking medical assistance from a medical expert if one is suffering from depression. However, for a Muslim there are a number of Duáas/remedies prescribed in the Quraan and Hadith for this illness which are extremely effective and beneficial, thus one may act on any of these prescriptions. Your local Ulema will also guide you towards such Duáas /remedies from the Quraan and Hadith.
