What
method of cutting nails in sunnah.


If anyone throws cut nails into the dustbin or pathway of the house, is this a sin?

Answer: 

1. There isn’t a particular method prescribed for clipping the nails. It is therefore incorrect to regard a particular method of cutting the nails as Sunnat and strictly adhere to it.

However, Imaam Nawawi Rahimahullah has explained in the commentary of Muslim Sharif that one should commence with the index finger of the right hand, then the middle finger, followed by the ring finger and then the baby finger and finally the thumb. Then commence with the baby finger of the left hand, then the ring finger, followed by the middle finger, then the index finger and finally concluding with the thumb. There are also other methods prescribed by other Ulama.

2. It is Makrooh to throw one’s clipped nails into the drain or toilets, etc. The Fuqaha have written that doing so creates illnesses.

وفي الخانية ينبغي أن يدفن قلامة ظفره ومحلوق شعره وإن رماه فلا بأس وكره إلقاؤه في كنيف أو مغتسل لأن ذلك يورث داء وروي أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أمر بدفن الشعر والظفر وقال لا تتغلب به سحرة بني آدم اه ولأنهما من أجزاء الآدمي فتحترم وروى الترمذي عن عائشة رضي الله عنها كان صلى الله عليه وسلم أمر بدفن سبعة أشياء من الإنسان الشعر والظفر والحيضة والسن والقلفة والمسحة اه )حاشية الطحطاوي علٰي مراقي الفلاح ص 528 )
