Having gatherings in which mention of Rasulullaah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam is made, by taking his name, by mentioning his Mubarak Seerah, enumerating his Sunnahs and sending salutations upon him is a means of great blessings and definitely merits great rewards. However, all these have to be carried out without indulging in the customary unsubstantiated practices prevalent in many Meelads and actions contrary to Shari’ah.

Similarly, these Seerah Jalsas should be carried out without considering them to be Waajib or Mustahab and without restricting them to specific days or months. (Fataawa Mahmudiyyah Vol. 5 Pg. 430)
