Question: 

How would one calculate his zakat on fruits? i have a friend who is growing strawberries. so he would like to know,how would he calculates his zakat when his date of paying is due on the 15th of Ramadhaan?

Answer: 

In South Africa, after harvesting one’s crops, if one sells the crops, then Zakaat of 2.5% will be due on the proceeds of the sale at the end of one’s Zakaatable year, provided that the amount equals to or exceeds the Nisaab of Zakaat.

Note: Whatever profit of the crops obtained during the year, will be added at the end of the year to all the others. It will not be calculated separately.i

i كل بلدة فتحت صلحا وقبلوا الجزية، فهي أرض خراج، وكل بلدة فتحت عنوة وقسمها الإمام بين الغانمين فهي عشرية، وكل بلدة فتحت عنوة، وأسلم أهلها قبل أن يحكم الإمام فيهم بشيء كان الإمام فيها بالخيار إن شاء قسمها بين الغانمين، وتكون عشرية وإن شاء من عليهم وبعد المن كان الإمام بالخيار إن شاء وضع العشر، وإن شاء وضع الخراج إن كانت تسقى بماء الخراج كذا في فتاوى قاضي خان. ) الهنديه ٢ / ٢٣٧ )
